Overview
Approved for delivery on the 17/08/2017, the metrology technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 36 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
Metrology is the science of measurement; it includes all the theoretical knowledge and the practical application of the measure. This is an essential role in the UK industry as a large variety of sectors need metrology, such as manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, construction, energy, environment, pharma, healthcare and space. Organisations of all sizes across these industries need metrology technicians to apply their theoretical knowledge and complete measurement activities.
Apprentices will learn to identify measurement needs and plan and perform measurement tasks. You will do this by using equipment, software programs, tools and instrumentation. Metrology technicians are responsible for improving the quality and output of goods and utilities by offering their expert knowledge on measurement. These goods and utilities can vary hugely; for example, you may be in charge of measuring hip joints, aircraft, molecules or galaxies.
Apprentices will be able to work independently, complying with health and safety regulations and safety requirements. These requirements will be determined by the nature of the role and the employer. You will learn to take responsibility for the accuracy of your work and develop a high level of attention to detail.
