Overview

Approved for delivery on the 07/12/2018, the nail services technician, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Nail services technicians complete all nail services on a one to one basis with clients, in a beauty salon or nail bar. The salon or nail bars can vary massively in size, style and ambience. Some apprentices prefer local independent salons, whereas others opt for luxury and high-end salons. Or there are nail services technician positions on cruise ships or international hotels.

Apprentices on this course will learn how to interact with customers and work both independently and as part of a team. You will work under the under supervision of a salon/nail bar manager, but nail technicians must be familiar and confident with all nail treatments. Some fundamental characteristics that nail technicians require and ones you will develop throughout the apprenticeship include a willingness to learn, an enthusiasm for the career and industry, a good work ethic and a drive for commitment. It’s essential that you are self-motivated and encouraged by working with the public, offering beauty advice and products recommendations.

Some of the critical responsibilities of nail technicians include managing their nail bar or station, assessing customer requirements and making appropriate recommendations and taking bookings. The primary treatments which you will be giving are manicure services, pedicure services, advice on nail polish, gel polish services and nail art.
