Install, terminate, test and certify network cable infrastructure components.

Overview

The network cable installer was approved for delivery on 23/04/2019. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 12 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Network infrastructure is the backbone of communications concerning the digital ecosystem; it enables all forms of digital devices to communicate with each other, including computers, serves, smart devices, security equipment, wireless access points, building management and lighting systems. A network cable installer installs this network infrastructure to National Industry Standards. As well as installation, cable installers are responsible for the testing and certifying too.

Apprentices will adapt to working in a data-sensitive environment’s and will contribute to a company’s cybersecurity strategy by following the security principles in all jobs. This ensures the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data. You may work in either an Inside Plant Environment (ISP) or an Outside Plant Environment (OSP); inside you are installing cables within buildings, and outside you are installing cables across cities and countries. The size of each project will vary hugely, both inside and out. You may be working on a single client premise or thousands of outlets in a new office block.

As an apprentice, some of your essential duties and tasks include installing copper cables, interpreting detailed plans, undertaking performance-based testing and learning to work in potentially hazardous settings safely.
