Overview

This Higher network engineer apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 12/11/2014 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship provides the technical training needed to become a network engineer. It is the responsibility of network engineers to ensure that communications networks operate at a high level, to facilitate communication within an organisation or between organisation. Apprentices will learn how to design, install and maintain these communication networks to the best of their ability, ensuring the highest quality performance for the user. You will develop the essential knowledge of network configuration, cloud, network administration and monitoring tools, and be able to advise on these subjects confidently.

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will develop many technical competencies related to network engineering. For example, you will be able to design simple networks from specifications, install and configure network components, optimise the performance of network systems, and undertake system upgrades. Furthermore, you will learn how to find faults in network systems by applying diagnostic tool and techniques, and then use a structured approach to troubleshooting the problem.

As an apprentice, you will learn to use logical and creative thinking skills, as well as analytic and problem-solving skills, to assess a problem from all angles. A successful apprentice is one who can use their initiative when working independently.
