Overview

Approved for delivery on the 27/02/2018, the network operations, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

The purpose of this role is to support the safe and efficient operation of bus, rail and coach transport networks. It is the responsibility of network operators to adhere to the rigorous rules and guidelines related to commercial and legal frameworks. As an apprentice, you will learn how to design, develop and monitor the performance of timetables and transport services, ensuring they meet customer requirements.

All apprentices will go through a core training process where you will work closely with a team of front-line operations managers, engineers, business supporters and stakeholders. As part of core training, you will learn about safety, quality and customer services. Depending on the size and type of employer you have, this could be within a head office or small control room.

After the core elements of the apprenticeship, you will specialise as either a Scheduler or a Network Performance Operator. Schedulers are responsible for the design and development of operating timetables for transport. This includes staff rosters, day to day schedules and implements temporary emergency operations. A network performance operator is responsible for monitoring the performance of a transport network and highlighting when services are not running to plan.
