What the course covers

Non-destructive testing is a science-based engineering profession that requires technicians to inspect materials without damaging them or removing them from service. Most importantly, this is a leadership and supervisory role; you will be overseeing the NDT work of junior technicians, including validating and auditing their inspections. The general purpose of NDT engineering technicians is to detect cracks and imperfections in manufactured components. You will use various methods, such as ultrasonics and infrared thermology. The results of these inspections are taken at face value; therefore, apprentices must be as accurate as possible at all times.

Apprentices on this course will have the opportunity to work in specific advanced industries such as aerospace, power generation and distribution, motorsport, marine, railways, oil & gas, manufacturing, and construction. For example, your daily inspections could include a nuclear reactor or car engine.

As an apprentice, you will gain excellent supervisory skills, learning how to motivate a team and support the emotional, as well as the performance needs of your staff. It will be your responsibility to help your staff to meet their performance goals, as well as delegating appropriate level tasks.
