Overview
This Intermediate non-destructive testing (ndt) operator apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 2, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 22/08/2016 and typically takes 18 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
Non-destructive testing (NDT) is an engineering profession which requires operators to inspect materials, welds and components usually within the manufacturing process on the production line.
Apprentices on this course will work as part of an inspection team who carry out inspections based on NDT work instructions. You will then report your findings to various Quality Management Systems; this will require an ability to absorb information and present thoughtfully and transparently. The information put into the Quality Management System is checked and subject to review by more experienced supervisory staff such as NDT Engineering Technicians. The findings of any inspection must be accurate and reliable to maintain a high standard throughout the engineering process.
Although this apprenticeship focuses on the NDT method, it also aims to equip you with transferable skills and knowledge to use across other engineering industries such as nuclear, new build, power generation, transport, oil and gas, and defence. The experience that you will develop throughout the apprenticeship includes an understanding of the health and safety requirements of inspection, NDT methods, material and product technology and consequences of inspection failure.
