Nursing Associate (NMC 2018)

Providing care for those who have mental, physical, cognitive and behavioural care needs.

Overview

The nursing associate (nmc 2018) was approved for delivery on 08/04/2019. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 5, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 24 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship aims to bridge the gap between health and care assistants and registered nursing. The objective is for nursing associates to provide more of a traditional care role which would allow registered nurses more time to focus on complex clinical duties. This apprenticeship is indented as a progressive step for those who eventually want to go on to graduate-level nursing.

Nursing associates can work in public, independent or voluntary sectors, and they usually operate in people’s homes, in the community, in a hospital or in any other healthcare setting. These can be challenging and testing environments, and as a nursing associate, you need to be ready for working in a high pressured multi-disciplinary team.

Throughout this apprenticeship, you will gain experience caring for people of all ages, abilities, religions, cultures and nationalities. You must be respectful and treat people with dignity at all times. Nursing associates are expected to promote health, health protection and the prevention of ill-health by empowering individuals with the tools to take control of their wellbeing. You will be encouraging people to exercise choice and, where possible, manage their care.
