What the course covers

Operations and departmental managers work in the private or public sector for organisations of all sizes. This apprenticeship aims to introduce you to the field of managing, delivering organisational strategy and departmental meeting goals. This is a very desirable role as many businesses want to hire external candidates to take a leadership position within a team. You will be reporting to the senior manager or business owner, but other than that, you will be expected to work independently and confidently understand how to manage a team successfully.

Your employer and specific job role will determine the variety and type of tasks you undertake as operations and departmental manager, but they may include creating and delivering operational plans, managing large projects, leading teams, managing organisational change, financial management, resource handling, coaching and mentoring. Apprentices will develop their strategic thinking skills and will learn how to oversee operations from both a general perspective and with an eye for business detail.

Apprentices will develop a critical understanding of operational management, viewing it as a method for success. This includes understanding approaches and models of leadership, business planning techniques, identifying barriers to success and utilising contingency plans.
