Overview

Approved for delivery on the 03/09/2015, the paralegal, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Paralegals are legal staff working under supervision in law firms and other legal settings to complete office-based and administration tasks. The type and variety of tasks you will do depend on your employer and the form of law you are working in. Examples of day to day jobs include managing data/records, reviewing documents, drafting and producing legal documents, assisting with the inception, progress and completion of client files, carrying out research, handling confidential and sensitive information, utilise necessary financial information and using oral and written communication skills.

Working in the legal sector requires apprentices to pay special attention to their ethics, professionalism and judgement. Throughout the apprenticeship, you have an understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements and an up to date knowledge on law and legal research. To work ethically and with professionalism, apprentices should avoid working out of their area of expertise and shouldn’t hesitate to ask for guidance from others.

This apprenticeship guarantees a high level of technical legal practice upon completion. You will be able to undertake legal and factual research and present the findings clearly and accurately. As well as this, you will be able to use precedents and draft documents with explicit and succinct language.
