Overview
The paramedic (degree) was approved for delivery on 08/08/2018. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 6, non-integrated degree qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 36 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will be a first-contact allied health professional working in a range of different roles as a registered paramedic. Paramedics provide high quality and compassionate care, responding to the needs of service users. Apprentices will gain this paramedic experience through a variety of environments, including GP surgery’s, a front-line ambulance, a minor injuries/illness centre, in remote medicine, or a variety of other healthcare environments.
Apprentices will learn to be an autonomous practitioner who has the knowledge, skills and clinical expertise to assess, treat, diagnose, supply and administer medicines, manage, discharge and refer patients to other emergency hospital settings. Throughout the apprenticeship, you are expected to continually reflect on the effectiveness of your decision’s actions, to improve the user experience of care. At times you may take a leading managerial role, demonstrating excellent leadership and communication qualities.
As this role sits within the healthcare profession, you may, at times, be working with vulnerable adults and children. This means apprentices need to practice safely with sensitivity and compassion at all times. You may also be working with several other healthcare professionals.
