Overview
Approved for delivery on the 18/12/2018, the pharmacy services assistant, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
In this apprenticeship, you will work under the supervision of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other healthcare professionals. You will learn how to provide a variety of pharmacy and medicine services to patients, the public and other healthcare teams, all within multiple pharmaceutical settings. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will develop the skills to support the supply, preparation and assembly of medicines and products, issuing them to patients and healthcare professionals. You will also build confidence in offering advice and instruction related to this medication, and how to make effective use of it.
Other responsibilities of the role include ordering and receiving medicines, storing them, disposing them and returning them if necessary. You will also give advice and support related to healthy lifestyle choices and be knowledgeable about screening and testing services.
All pharmacy services assistants must work following standard operating procedures (SOP), which are direct step by step instructions complied by your organisation to help carry out routine operations correctly and efficiently. SOP’s aim to produce uniformity of performance and quality outputs, while reducing miscommunication and hopefully limiting failures of pharmacy regulations.
