Overview
This Advanced photographic assistant apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 10/04/2019 and typically takes 18 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
This apprenticeship standard will provide apprentices with the technical skills and specialist knowledge to achieve a successful career as a photography assistant. You will apply your expertise in a range of methods in the workplace to generate, print or publish a photographic image. This could include producing digital, film or silver-based prints depending on the type of business.
You will develop a strong awareness of the photography industry, including different subsectors of the photo imaging industry and the specialist roles within each sector. Apprentices will specialise in one of the following two areas:
- Assistant photographer: You will be generating the original photography imagery. You may work in indoor studios as well as outdoor locations using digital or film cameras; producing stills or video imagery for a wide range of uses.
- Photographic technician: You will typically work in a commercial photo finishing business, minilab or in-house processing centre. You will work to produce prints from customer’s digital imagery or may be responsible for processing and printing imagery from photographic films using non-digital equipment.
