Overview
This Advanced plate welder apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 19/07/2019 and typically takes 36 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
This apprenticeship standard will enable apprentices to develop the technical skills and knowledge to excel in a plate welding career. The primary role of a Plate welder is to manually weld plate and structural components, ensuring to meet high-quality standards.
You will learn the necessary skills to produce welds in plate and structural components covering three plate welding positions: Vertical, Overhead, and the three main joint configurations. Each welding process requires the use of significantly different welding equipment, assemblies, controls, skills and techniques, and represents an individual production process. Apprentices will have the opportunity to learn this broad range of technical skills, including how to competently and safely operate different machinery and tools.
In your daily work, you will interact with a wide range of professionals including Metal Fabricators, Erectors, Riggers, Supervisors, Engineers, Inspectors, Non-Destructive Technicians and Quality-control personnel. You should expect to work shift patterns, and for this reason, apprentices must be flexible. You may find employment in a range of industries including Fabrication Shops, Assembly Yards, Construction or Building Sites, Factories, and Operational Facilities requiring maintenance and upgrade.
