Overview
This Higher power and propulsion gas turbine engineer apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 7, non-degree qualification qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 07/08/2020 and typically takes 36 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
This apprenticeship covers a wide range of roles within numerous industries. As such, the course will vary depending on the needs of the organisation that is hiring the apprentice. There are two routes into which a Power and Propulsion Gas Turbine Engineer will specialise; either Aircraft Propulsion or Rotating Machinery Applications. The former works within the aircraft industry to evaluate the integration of engine systems with the airframe. The latter works within the energy industry to develop and improve gas turbines in land and sea applications.
Primarily, these specialist engineers are involved in the process of designing, developing and operating these gas turbine systems. This means that the apprentice will learn how to manage projects in cost-effective ways to high-quality standards. As such, the role requires significant responsibility and the ability to work under pressure. However, to achieve this, the apprentice will work with a variety of specialists and engineers. They must learn from these experts throughout the course.
However, the Power and Propulsion Gas Turbine Engineer is also responsible for developing new concepts, designs and processes for the production, use and maintenance of gas turbine systems. As such, they will need a significantly in-depth knowledge of the field and the technology, which is changing rapidly. Part of this work is critiquing and analysing existing ideas and projects, reporting to senior engineers. </p
