Overview
Approved for delivery on the 24/05/2019, the print technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 36 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
A Print Technician works in a technical and continuously adapting industry. There are three different stages to the printing process: pre-print, printing, and post-print. The rationalisation of the industry has led to technicians needing to be capable at all three stages; this apprenticeship will include all necessary education.
The apprentice will learn how to operate complex machinery whilst following extensive safety regulations. During this process, the apprentice must understand the needs of the customer so that they can deliver the appropriate product in the designated period. Achieving this entails an understanding of the machinery so that they can check and tailor it, so the end-product matches what the customer commissioned.
Being a print technician requires certain behaviours to be successful. The essential characteristic is to listen to and understand the needs of others. This will allow you to comprehend the needs of the customer and the abilities of your colleagues so you can operate proficiently. Given how much the industry is adapting, being open to new technology or practices is vital. Lastly, being able to follow procedures efficiently, accurately and consistently will allow you to produce a high quantity of quality content.
