What the course covers

A Probation Services Practitioner’s main aim is to protect the public. They achieve this by trying to establish the best route out of incarceration for ex-offenders that helps to rehabilitate them and reduce the risk of re-offending.

The apprentice’s daily activities will mainly consist of working with a range of ex-offenders and the court system. In turn, the practitioner will produce risk assessments and liaise with other professionals or organisations to ensure that the rehabilitation is successful. Achievement of this goal requires constant and adaptable analysis, along with quality communication and cooperation with a range of individuals.

Due to their close interaction with ex-offenders, they must be able to adhere to safety protocols. Additionally, the apprentice will excel from remaining positive and respectful towards the ex-offenders they are working with. Due to the potential for emotional stress in this occupation, an apprentice who can manage their workload and know when to seek support for themselves will excel in the field. Additionally, the vast array of individuals that you will assess will require significantly different needs. Being able to take account of failures and identify the improvements and changes you need to make for each individual is an excellent skill for a probation services practitioner to have.
