Process Leader

This Higher process leader apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 04/03/2019 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

Process Leaders organise and direct all the activities and operations involved in manufacturing large quantities of products, or the products that require large teams to create. They work in a variety of industries, particularly in those that have processes that involve moulding, metal or chemical processing, general assembly and the production of textiles, food and drink and pharmaceuticals. Although your employer could vary, the skills and knowledge you acquire in the apprenticeship are mostly transferable to any other companies with manufacturing processes.

The Process Leaders are less concerned with the process’ equipment, but the staff who operate them. A successful apprentice would be an effective leader and communicator, who understands and listens to their team members such that they have a healthy and productive work environment. A part of this is learning the skills necessary for project management. This includes planning, managing resources, identifying risks and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, as well as following the legislation relevant to the industry and technology.

Due to the technically complex nature of the machinery, the apprentice will often have to work with specialists to maintain the equipment. Additionally, this means that the apprentice will excel in the course by concentrating on their behaviours relating to leadership and teamwork, rather than technical knowledge.
