Overview

This Higher professional accounting / taxation technician apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 21/07/2016 and typically takes 18 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

The primary role of a Professional Accounting/Tax Technician is to form and review an organisations financial information. This process is necessary for an organisation to meet certain ethical and legal standards. In turn, the apprentice could work for just about any enterprise. If their employer is an accounting practice, they could experience working with a variety of different companies within the same occupation. The apprentice will eventually specialise in either accounting or tax.

Due to their role being essential to a vital process, in which carelessness could be massively costly to the organisation, the apprentice primarily learns to be as accurate as possible. However, there are also extensive industry knowledge requirements. As such, the apprentice will spend a lot of time understanding exactly how to draft, process and review different aspects of the documents. Additionally, you will need a comprehensive understanding of the business, the ethical standards, the regulations and accepted processes for accountability or verification.

To excel at this apprenticeship, the candidate will have to learn particular skills and behaviours. These including critical analysis of a large quantity of documents and numbers; being an effective leader for their own development and others; capable of collaborating within a team; and, strictly following rigid systems and regulations.
