Overview

Approved for delivery on the 08/08/2018, the professional economist (degree), Degree apprenticeship standard provides a level 6, integrated degree upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 42 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

A Professional Economist can find work in a range of organisations. As such, they could be analysing anything from the potential benefits for a business to implement some new technology or expand their service, to assisting the Bank of England on their interest rate policy. Primarily, the economists’ occupation is to analyse and identify the applicable data to help inform organisations about their future according to specific decisions.

Due to the enormity of the economy and the sectors within it, a Professional Economist apprentice will work with several different senior economists. Depending on the size of the job, it is common for the role to be part of a large team, each taking up various tasks. This apprenticeship will provide the experience to work across a variety of sectors with several different options for specialising.

The nature of the occupation requires an in-depth and up-to-date understanding of the ever-evolving economy. Throughout the course, the apprentice will learn how to utilise a range of theories or practices to maintain their high level of understanding. In turn, a successful apprentice will be able to communicate these complex ideas in an understandable way to the client.
