Overview
This Higher propulsion technician apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 05/09/2018 and typically takes 42 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
A Propulsion Technician follows development plans to help build and test propulsion systems. Such systems include hybrid and electric propulsion technology, internal combustion engines and advanced control systems. An important part of the occupation is to deliver what is expected by the stakeholders. As such, the apprentice will learn how to interact with and understand the customer. The apprentice could specialise in one of the six parts of the occupation: battery building and testing; emissions testing and analysis; engine testing; powertrain testing; product analysis and verification; or, engine building and processing.
The Propulsion Technician will work strictly to a development plan and are responsible for delivering it following the quality, cost and timescale requested by the customer. The apprentice will be responsible for evaluating each component within the design to ensure they are fit for purpose. Should their assessment suggest it is not suitable, they will develop alternative technologies that are. Once a product is complete, the Propulsion Technician will test it to ensure it meets the criteria set out in the development plan, operates in accordance with relevant legislation and follows all health and safety guidelines.
