What the course covers

The Retail Manager is responsible for guiding and leading a team of retail staff to deliver sales targets and excellent customer service. They must understand and manage the finances of the store, as well as supporting the personal development of the staff. Given the wide range of different types of retail companies, there are numerous different environments in which an apprentice could choose to work.

The daily tasks of a Retail manager will vary massively from day-to-day. However, generally, their occupation revolves around three main elements. The first is the customer, whose wants and needs the apprentice must learn to understand to improve sales. Second, is their team of staff, who the apprentice must be able to support, encourage and lead through what can be a difficult job. The last element is that of the business, where the manager must learn how to plan and administrate so that the store can run as efficiently as possible.

There is a high staff turnover in retail, such that the apprentice must be able to inspire those to commit to the store and maintain their work ethic. To achieve this, the Retail Manager must run by the ethos of leading by example.
