Overview

Approved for delivery on the 07/08/2018, the revenues and welfare benefits practitioner, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 4, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

The role of a Revenues and Welfare Benefits Practitioner is to administrate all the claims made to local authorities for a variety of assistance, financial or otherwise. They will work in any one of the local authorities across the UK and will specialise in one of two areas: Revenues or Welfare.

Generally, an apprentice’s role will include gathering and recording the information from customers, discussing any related issues they may be facing, and advising them on how to maximise their income. Should the apprenticeship specialise in Revenues, they will help to administer a customer’s account, including helping to calculate tax due and ensuring that the customer pays whatever they owe. If they enter Welfare, they will typically assess the eligibility of the customer for various benefits or financial support, calculate their exact entitlement according to current legislation, arrange payments of benefits, and take action to fix any issues.

To excel in this occupation, the apprentice must be patient, communicate well with a diverse customer base, understand and follow the appropriate legislation and remain honest in their assessments of customer information or applications.
