Overview
The risk and safety management professional (degree) was approved for delivery on 24/09/2018. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 7, non-integrated degree qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 36 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
A Risk and Safety Management Professional is an essential occupation for any industry where a failure in their processes could lead to major losses, including fatalities. As such, they are responsible for evaluating and identifying all the potential risks that an organisation has. Due to the various industries that have a high-risk factor, the apprentice may work in a variety of environments. This includes anything from a factory making cars, to an oil rig out in the ocean.
The daily tasks of the apprentice will slightly vary depending on where they are working, as the technical information will differ according to the industry. For example, nuclear safety will vary from air safety. Despite this, the main processes remain largely the same. These include carrying out risk assessments for the organisations, evaluating their alignment to appropriate legislation, developing plans to mitigate the risks and monitoring their client’s safety performances, including reporting to stakeholders.
There are a few essential behaviours that an apprentice must adopt to succeed in the course. These include a distinct scepticism of a company’s performance, remaining adaptable in the approach to assessing risk and developing improved safety solutions and taking responsibility for their development and mistakes.
