Overview
Approved for delivery on the 03/09/2015, the science industry maintenance technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 36 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
A science industry maintenance technician contributes to the safe operation of science industry plant, through the installation, maintenance, testing and repair of mechanical or electrical equipment. Science industry maintenance technicians work in a wide range of businesses, including chemical, petrochemical, polymer, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, engineering and nuclear manufacturing. Apprentices may work as part of an in-house maintenance team, or work as an engineering maintenance contractor that moves between different companies across the science industry.
You will take a proactive approach in finding solutions to problems and identifying areas for improvement in the workplace. Apprentices will develop core engineering skills, including an understanding of how to follow working practices specific to the industry where you work.
You will be able to work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your work. Employers are subject to inspection by regulatory body relevant to their industry, such as the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency. For this reason, apprentices must work in compliance with strict health, safety, hygiene and environmental regulations.
