Overview

The science industry process and plant engineer (degree) was approved for delivery on 27/02/2018. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 6, non-integrated degree qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 60 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

A Science industry process and plant engineer is responsible for guiding the development of the design and manufacture process of technology or products in the science sector. This could be chemical or biological and may be suitable for industrial or consumer use.

You will develop and apply knowledge of underlying engineering principles to implement and develop new processes or plant for product development. An essential part of this apprenticeship standard will focus on the development of leadership abilities, including an understanding of how to use your project management skills to develop and manufacture products on time, within budget and to the right product quality.

Process specialists are involved in the conception, design and operation of processes while plant specialists ensure the plant, equipment and manufacturing assets are monitored and optimised to support the processing operation.

Apprentices will take a proactive approach in identifying and supporting engineering solutions to challenging problems, will understand how to identify areas for business improvement and propose innovative ideas. You will work in compliance with strict health, safety, hygiene and environmental regulations, including wearing specialist personal protective equipment when necessary.
