Overview
Approved for delivery on the 09/12/2014, the science manufacturing technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
A Science manufacturing technician is responsible for operating the systems, machinery and equipment involved in the production of products. Science manufacturing technicians work for a wide range of businesses, including chemical, primary and secondary pharmaceutical, biotechnology, formulated products and nuclear manufacturing.
Apprentices will learn the skills to operate a range of machinery and equipment safely. You may work in varied conditions which could require wearing specialist safety or personal protective equipment. You will operate under highly regulated conditions, and must work in compliance with strict health, safety, hygiene and environmental regulations.
Science manufacturing technicians will learn to work both individually and as part of a manufacturing team. You will complete daily tasks with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your work. You should have a proactive attitude with a willingness to find solutions to problems and identify areas for improvement in the workplace.
Successful completion of this apprenticeship standard will allow for apprentices to apply for recognition by a professional body at the Registered Science Technician level, for which there is a requirement that the technician will participate in subsequent continuing professional development.
