Overview

The security first line manager was approved for delivery on 22/10/2018. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 18 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship standard will equip apprentices the skills and knowledge to achieve a successful career security management. This could include working in the private security industry, event security, In-house security, the Department for Transport or Ministry of Defence.

Security first-line managers are competent in supervising people and activities in line with strict regulatory requirements. This includes undertaking security risk assessments, providing security advice to others, and understanding threat, vulnerability and risk. Depending on the industry where you work, you may need to develop knowledge on threat and risk on a national and international security basis. You will need to respond accordingly to threat, often when under pressure.

Successful completion of this apprenticeship standard will require strict and rigorous training. Apprentices must have a commitment to security and a willingness to work long hours, often outside the normal working hours range. A significant part of this standard will be a focus on the development of leadership qualities, including the ability to manage people and motivate them to exceed professional goals.
