Senior Metrology Technician

Overview

Approved for delivery on the 07/08/2018, the senior metrology technician, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 5, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 36 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Metrology is the science of measurement and takes place across a wide variety of industries including advanced manufacturing, aerospace, construction, environment, energy and healthcare.

Every year over £600 million of measurement products and utilities are sold in the UK. Measurement examples include measuring galaxies, molecules, emissions, chemicals and human joints.

This apprenticeship will provide you with the knowledge and skills to manage resources and measurement activities that are sustainable, follow best practice and comply with regulatory standards and principles. You will be responsible for planning, accuracy, quality, and evaluation of metrology activities within your remit alongside applying a measurement strategy and understanding its commercial impact.

This apprenticeship will also require you to carry out audits and risk assessments alongside building relationships with customers and colleagues. Your knowledge of the industry will enable you to identify problems, find solutions and suggest areas for improvement with the help of data analysis and evaluation that you use to inform of future measurement developments.

A successful apprentice will be recognised as a valuable member of the business, contributing to both the future of metrology and the UK economy.
