Overview
The sewing machinist was approved for delivery on 08/08/2018. This Intermediate apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 2, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 12 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
This apprenticeship can take place in micro, small or large manufacturing businesses that produce a wide range of products. This could be clothing and fashion, knitwear, upholstery, soft furnishing, medical textiles and more. A sewing machinist role is fundamental in the organisation’s production process, no matter what sector of the industry.
You may be required to work alone and as part of a team, possibly working on one aspect of a process or across various operations. This will ultimately depend on the company size and type of products. Activities may include blind hemming, overlocking, lock stitching, seaming, ruffling and linking.
With every product you make, you will meet the product specifications and quality criteria. It is essential to maintain product quality whilst working at the desired speed to meet targets and deadlines set by your manager.
It is also essential that you adhere to health and safety rules and regulations to ensure the safety of both yourself and others in the workplace. Alongside this, you will be expected to gain a deep understanding of your companies’ product range and business model, including how your role fits into the wider process and structure of the company.
