Overview

The software development technician was approved for delivery on 16/12/2016. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 18 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship will usually involve working within a software development team to build simple components that can be used as part of a larger development project.

You will be required to interpret simple design requirements, typically implementing code that other team members have developed to produce a complete, required component.

Other responsibilities will include testing specific components to ensure they meet the intended functionality required for the wider development project, alongside following organisational and industry practices.

You will be required to solve logical problems and seek assistance when necessary as well as respond to any business-related issues associated with the software development. Your knowledge and expertise will allow you to liaise appropriately with colleagues, customers and other businesses alongside providing the ability to develop user interfaces required by the organisation.

It will be integral to understand the software development lifecycle, different methodologies and particular contexts for development platforms as well as recognising the importance of building in security software during the development phase.
