Overview
Approved for delivery on the 18/04/2019, the specialist rescue operative, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 4, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
This apprenticeship provides the skills and knowledge needed to rescue people from heights, in confined spaces, underground or from any other hazards. Alongside this, you will also help with training others to perform competently in rescue operations.
All of your work will aim to save and preserve life, and it is imperative to comply with related legislation, procedures and policies. You will be expected to carry out routine inspections of equipment and team competence, reporting any defects or deficiencies that need addressing.
For search and rescue purposes you will usually work in small teams, operating as part of a larger team as and when required.
The primary industries that will require your assistance include water and power utilities and underground mines. You may be needed to provide an immediate rescue from places such as, chambers, tanks, pits, trenches, sewers, wells, and any other enclosed spaces that present a significant risk. You will be required to plan an escape and rescue route factoring in the use of any necessary equipment such as breathing apparatus, first aid equipment and transport.
