Sports Turf Operative

This Intermediate sports turf operative apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 2, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 19/09/2016 and typically takes 18 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

This apprenticeship role may also be referred to as a Groundsperson or a Grounds Maintenance Operative.

You will be responsible for ensuring that private and public sports facilities are fit for use. This role will involve the ongoing maintenance and possible renovation of sports turf surfaces in relation to the specific sport it is intended for and will need to meet the expected quality standards.

This apprenticeship provides the opportunity to work across a wide variety of venues and locations relating to sports such as, cricket, horse racing, football, rugby, tennis and hockey, to name a few. Surfaces you will be responsible for may range from those found in parks to first-class stadia.

Working outdoors has been identified as a particular benefit of this apprenticeship, proven to contribute to the well-being of employees. Furthermore, the sheer variety of differing types of natural and artificial pitches makes the role exciting and dynamic.

When carrying out your work, you will be required to comply with environmental and health and safety regulations alongside considering how to minimise waste and environmental impact.
