Overview
This Intermediate stockperson (beef, pigs, sheep, dairy) apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 2, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 13/09/2018 and typically takes 18 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
This apprenticeship offers the future opportunity to work within the agriculture industry both in the UK and abroad. You could work within a variety of settings such as a small, family-run farm to much larger operations within the food supply chain.
The role will require you to raise animals with their needs and welfare at the forefront of your mind throughout all the stages of their lives. Due to the nature of this role, your work will involve a mix of manual and technology-assisted labour.
It is essential that you are compassionate, motivated and can work both independently and within a team. You will be responsible for your own work under supervision. As animal welfare is so essential on a farm, you must know your limits within the role and know when to ask for help if you need it.
This apprenticeship will cover the generic requirements needed to look after animals alongside sector-specific options tailored to different livestock. This means you will be able to choose which livestock you would like to learn more about to aid your future, desired progression within the industry.
