Overview

This Advanced survival equipment fitter apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 07/06/2016 and typically takes 36 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship will involve the maintenance of survival equipment in line with approved requirements, instructions and regulations. This is a complex and specialist role that will require you to use specific tools and equipment to complete your work to the expected standard.

You will be taught the fundamentals of engineering and electrical hand skills, alongside any maintenance practices required within your specific role. This will be accompanied by learning to understand the characteristics, properties and structure of materials used within the maintenance, construction and repair of survival equipment.

Furthermore, other key aspects of this apprenticeship will be reading, understanding and interpreting engineering drawings, data, specifications, computer generated information, maintenance manuals and aircraft documentation.

It will be essential to identify and solve any problems that arise using the correct processes, understanding the importance of Standard Operating Procedures and why they are used. It is important that you take responsibility for your own work, but also know your limits and when you may need to ask for assistance.

Any work that you carry out must be in line with statutory, organisational and quality standards for aviation. This will include the correct documentation, health and safety and policy for carrying out maintenance.
