Overview

Approved for delivery on the 26/06/2018, the teaching assistant, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

As a teaching assistant you can work in a variety of settings with a range of age groups. You are able to work in primary, secondary and special education institutions, providing additional educational and emotional support to enhance pupils’ learning.

Your primary responsibility is to support the class teacher, helping to make sure pupils understand the tasks that have been set, including any learning objectives. You will also support the students in understanding and completing their work. You may work with a group of students or individually, promoting self-belief to ensure pupils are able to thrive in a positive and safe learning environment.

You will be a role model, acting with honesty and integrity, having a positive influence on the students that you work with. The role will include involvement with team staff meetings, requiring contribution on the planning and delivery of lessons.

It is expected that you will promote moral, social, spiritual and cultural development throughout your support, aiding with pupil process and development in turn.
