Overview

This Higher technical dyer and colourist apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 16/05/2019 and typically takes 36 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship is found within the textile manufacturing industry, with most work taking place in manufacturing and laboratory facilities inside a factory. This role can be within an SME or larger enterprises, possibly including small dyehouses or much bigger chemical, clothing and retail organisations.

You will learn how to produce specialised colours and dyes for use in textile, upholstery, apparel and fashion fabric production. Working alongside senior technologists, shop floor operatives and leaders and directors will be a key aspect of this role, alongside dealing with customers over email and telephone regarding technical data and job sheets.

Responsibilities of this role include scientific analysis, accurate measurements, quality, trials and production of dye and colour applications. These will be within industrial and mechanical environments, creating work appropriate for the specific project at hand.

This apprenticeship involves working within a senior role, managing and leading a team of dyehouse operatives. You will typically report directly to senior managers and directors of your organisation, taking full responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your work within the dyeing and colouration environment.
