Overview

This Intermediate textile care operative apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 2, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 22/06/2018 and typically takes 12 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship is based within the textile care industry, encompassing commercial laundry services including the likes of dry and wet cleaning.

Alongside cleaning, commercial laundries also offer various products for rental. These include work-wear for transport, food and pharmaceutical sectors, and linen for hospitality, hospital and care organisations.

There are approximately over 3500 textile care businesses in the UK, and these range from SME’s to larger PLCs. As a Textile Care Operative you will be at the heart of the operation, making up the majority of the employees within the industry.

You will be required to sort incoming products, classifying them for the appropriate cleaning processes, use specialist equipment and chemicals to ensure a high-quality finish, and dry, finish and pack items ready to be dispatched to customers.

It is important that you adhere to company policy and procedures, ensuring you rectify any mistakes that are make, working safely and efficiently whilst trying to minimise your impact on the environment.

You will work within an increasingly technological environment and report to your team leader or line manager. This role may require shift work, especially as the majority of the industry works 365 days a year.
