Overview

The textile technical specialist was approved for delivery on 07/11/2019. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 4, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 24 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship is a highly technical role that can be found in advanced textile and fashion manufacturing companies. You will be responsible for the production of textiles for woven or finished fabrics in particular.

You will have to ensure that the plant, machinery and products meets customer expectations. This will involve using specialist equipment to either weave or finish products that are used within the world’s textile supply chain.

This apprenticeship provides core and optional learning modules. You will have the choice to study either technical weaving or technical finishing.

The technical weaving pathway will cover the whole of the weaving production operation and the technical finishing will cover all of the textile finishing operations.

In your daily work you will use computer systems to plan and programme production machinery, and carry out accurate measurements, scientific analysis and the whole production process. Almost all of your work will be in an indoor environment, typically dealing with customer via phone or email.

This role can be found across a multitude of businesses, be that micro, SMEs or large enterprises. It can range from small weaving and finishing businesses to larger ones who meet the requirements of the global fashion market.
