Overview

Approved for delivery on the 23/06/2020, the trade union official, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 4, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship can be found in a wide variety of sectors relating to Trade Unions, Staff Associations and Professional Trade Associations.

This role will involve the development and delivery of activities and campaigns that will help to recruit and retain union members. These campaigns and activities will ensure that employees are represented in their workplaces aiding in the protection of rights, and employment security.

You will be required to provide direct delivery of activities and campaigns alongside supporting and training volunteer led union activists to carry out their own in line with overall union policy. With this in mind you will be interacting with a wide variety of individuals including, volunteer led activists, potential members, existing members, employers, workplace branches, federations, government, the press and non-governmental organisations.

It will be your responsibility to implement your unions organising strategy within particular organisations in a specific geographical area and you may also be responsible for a team of local volunteer representatives. Alongside this your work allocation may vary, possibly taking responsibility for employer negotiations or representing a case up to Tribunal level. No matter what duty you will be working on, you will always report back to a more senior union official of lay member executive.
