Overview

This Intermediate tramway construction operative apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 2, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 28/03/2019 and typically takes 18 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship is based within the Tramway and Light Rail Construction sector providing technical work relating to the construction and renewal of the Tramway and its environment.

In this role you will interact with a range of individuals including your team, a site supervisor who you will report to, designers, engineers and operators installing overhead lines. The work you carry out may be for private organisations, councils and local authorities to name a few.

You will be responsible for any activity required for constructing or renewing the Tramway. This may include setting up temporary traffic lights, assisting with lifting and moving large loads, providing access for deliveries, and carrying out site clearance.

Whilst carrying out your duties you must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment, follow safety regulations and help to minimise any risks to others or yourself.

This role works in shift patterns, outdoors in city or town locations. With this in mind it is crucial to have an understanding of pedestrianised and road traffic areas’ relationships, effects of work on the surrounding settings, different types of buildings, and the general public who may be passing by whilst work is being carried out.
