Overview

The transport planning technician was approved for delivery on 11/05/2016. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 36 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship can be based within a range of settings including, local authorities, government, small specialist firms, multi-national consultancies and contractors, and agencies.

This role will involve providing technical support throughout the planning, designing, implementation and assessment stages of transport planning. You will use your knowledge and skills to deliver or make improvements to national, regional, local or international transport services and systems, supported by digital technologies and data analysis that will help to forecast demand. This position aims to connect transport with land use planning promote economic growth, protect the environment and support civil cohesion.

Within this role you will interact with team members, other professionals in your organisation, stakeholders, regulatory organisations and the public. You will spend most of your time within an office with occasional visits to sites, customers and suppliers.

It will be your responsibility to initiate and complete your assigned tasks within the agreed timescales and budget requirements. You will follow policy and regulatory requirements whilst acting with high levels of professionalism and integrity.

You will most likely be working with a more senior transport planning professional who will provide technical input on more challenging and complex projects if needed.
