Unified Communications Technician

Overview

This Advanced unified communications technician apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 16/12/2016 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

This role will involve maintaining and establishing communication systems using a variety of physical and remote tools and equipment. You will be required to deal with routine service requests from both internal and external sources including rectifying faults across a range of technologies and applying security protocols in adherence to organisational and legal regulations.

You will have to analyse problems within systems using the most appropriate tools and techniques, then select the most suitable response, possibly asking for logistical support or escalating to a higher level if needed.

Alongside your practical work you will need to document completed tasks in line with any organisational procedures ensuring accurate records of any jobs carried out.

You will learn how to use testing and diagnostic equipment, cabling and connectivity solutions, gain knowledge relating to the security of software, encryption, firewalls, VPN and Remote Access Security.

You will be required to work both independently and as part of a team, using your own initiative when solving problems. It is essential that you maintain a professional, productive and secure working environment with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers and colleagues.
