Overview
The vehicle damage paint technician was approved for delivery on 22/03/2019. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 36 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
Working in the vehicle body repair sector of the motor industry, Vehicle Damage Paint Technician’s prepare, spray and finish a range of cars and light commercial vehicles that have suffered damage as a result of an accident or collision.
As part of the apprenticeship, you will work to ensure the correct colour and finish is applied in line with manufacturers specifications and meets each customer’s expectations first time. You will learn how to carry out preparation work on vehicles, such as masking, sanding and paint volume calculations, and apply a range of finishes using spray painting technology, a range of paint mixing, drying and curing techniques, and a general knowledge of its composition principles.
You will also learn how to work safely in the workshop at all times, as you understand the compliance requirements of vehicle collision repair business, such as the control of substances and management of solvents. You will be able to assess the overall quality of your work, and understand the implications of poor-quality repairs and refinishes, as you take responsibility for your work and communicate with other colleagues where additional help is required.
