Overview
This Intermediate waste resource operative apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 2, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 08/11/2018 and typically takes 12 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
A Waste Resource Operative can work in a variety of sites and locations within the waste and recycling industry, such as Household Waste Recycling Centres, Materials Recycling Facilities, Transfer Stations, Trade Waste Collection services, Energy Recovery Facilities, Composting Facilities, Re-processors and Municipal Waste Collection.
As an apprentice, you may work in utilities, agriculture, local authorities or construction, as you use your understanding of waste and recycling principles to identify resources and waste for sorting, segregation and treatment. You will assist in the running of a site or activity, and plan the collection and transportation of waste and resources, help identify, check and maintain equipment used to load and unload it and support with the disposal of waste and hazardous materials such as medical waste and asbestos in accordance with regulatory and organisational procedures.
You will learn how to promote sustainability and the prevention of unnecessary waste, communicating with internal and external customers, in addition to manager, peers and colleagues, and suitably document their organisational procedures and work instructions.
