Water Environment Worker

Working to maintain the safety of water environments.

Overview

What the course covers

This apprenticeship provides the training and knowledge needed to work as a water environment worker. You will work for an organisation that has a responsibility to manage the impact of water environments, both natural and humanmade on the surrounding areas. Water environments include rivers, coasts, lakes, wetlands, canals and reservoirs. It is your responsibility within this role to minimise erosion, damage to infrastructure and prevent flooding of these environments. Organisations in this field often provide the planning and response to flooding from all of these water environments.

As an apprentice on this course it will be your primary aim to create a safe environment where the public can enjoy these water areas and their surrounding landscapes, whilst simultaneously protecting the natural habitat and ensuring species can thrive. Some ways you might do this include monitoring water levels and pollution levels, and using techniques to mitigate the impact of this pollution.

Apprentices will often work in a customer-facing role where politeness and professionalism are essential. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will develop your confidence in working in public spaces and interacting with paying customers, people using public footpaths and industry contractors.
