Overview

Approved for delivery on the 27/08/2015, the water process technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 48 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship standard provides the outline of the critical skills, behaviours and knowledge needed to perform routine and reactive maintenance on equipment used to process water systems. The primary areas of work which this apprenticeship covers include working on water supply and water treatments, water networks and leakage, sewerage, and wastewater.

There are five areas of specialism which apprentices will choose from after completing all mandatory core training and experience. The five specialisms are Water treatment, Process Technician; Water Distribution, Network Technician; Water Distribution, Leakage Technician; Waste Water, Sewerage Network Technician; Waste Water, Treatment Technician.

Before you can progress to a water process technician specialism, all apprentices must have an excellent grasp on the appropriate technical knowledge. This includes relevant industry health and safety standards, maintenance practices and procedures such as a range of waste and water systems, relevant theory and underpinning principles of equipment and testing procedures of equipment.

As well as critical technical knowledge, you will also develop a range of essential skills such as demonstrating care and respect to customers and colleagues on their premises, carrying out risk assessments, completing necessary reports and ensuring that records are maintained for audit purposes.
