What the course covers
The purpose of this apprenticeship standard is to train apprentices with the knowledge and skills to work as part of a healthcare team in the provision of health and social care. You will have direct contact with patients, service users or clients providing high quality and compassionate care.
The role of a Healthcare assistant practitioner is above that of a Healthcare support worker; you will develop an in-depth understanding of factors that influence health and ill-health, including the principles of anatomy and physiology. You will have a caring, compassionate nature, and be committed to providing high-quality services prioritising patient outcomes and experience.
Typical work activities include assisting in patient assessment, coordinating of care provision including referrals to other practitioners, and higher clinical skills such as catheterisation wound care and discharge planning. You will work under the supervision of a Registered practitioner, ensuring to comply with employer policy, protocols and standard operating procedures. Apprentices will develop a strong understanding of risk management in the workplace, including infection prevention and control procedures such as the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
