Learning and Development Practitioner

A practical role focused on designing and implementing training and learning opportunities for a business.

Overview

The learning and development practitioner was approved for delivery on 08/08/2018. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 18 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship focuses on learning and training opportunities for businesses across the public, private and third sector. Apprentices will be responsible for identifying training needs within the company; this might entail highlighting vulnerable or inefficient parts of the business system, identifying future potential in individuals or analysing business data to spot a problem.

After a training opportunity has been identified, you will learn how to design, construct and structure an effective training programme. You will have to research delivery methods and resources such as digital, online or blended, and select a developmental strategy most appropriate for the training required. Learning and development practitioners must create engaging, thoughtful and inclusive learning activities, to ensure that all employees can learn and develop.

The final stage of the role is the delivery of the training. You will learn to confidently engage all employees in structured, learner-centred training and interact with people with a broad range of techniques. The more inclusive and accessible this training is, the more effective it will be in implementing the desired change.

Learning and development practitioners tend to specialise within their field, whether that be vocational, behavioural or technical. For example, using software, food preparation, e-learning or team working.
