Management Apprenticeships
An apprenticeship in the field of management is for those who have a bit of get up and go and believe they have what it takes to show leadership in the world of work. There are several different apprenticeships on offer in the area of management and these can relate to specific areas such as housing management, or broader areas such as management consulting.
Most of the apprenticeship standards relating to management apprenticeships are in the higher educational bands so this is something to consider before deciding on whether this is the apprenticeship for you.
What are Management Apprenticeships?
A management apprenticeship will typically take place with a housing organisation or management consultant business, a construction site, or a larger organisation with a broad range of facilities that need to be managed.
You will learn the range of skills that are needed by all managers and regardless of which of the management apprenticeships you have chosen to follow, you will gain the ability to turn your hand to many different types of management.
You will learn how to interact with and supervise teams of people with varying workloads, shift patterns and expectations. This necessitates being able to interact well with people, especially those who may be slightly daunted by someone a lot younger than them in a more senior position.
The Benefits of Management Apprenticeships
Management apprenticeships represent an amazing opportunity to move into the upper echelons of business management over the longer term and to learn from some experienced managers as you ascend.
Management roles tend to be much better paid than most other positions in companies as the salary reflects the responsibility that the position holds. Making good connections and networking hard during your apprenticeship will almost certainly lead to many new opportunities once your apprenticeship has been successfully completed.
Both private sector companies and public sector organisations are always looking for well-qualified managers and will often pay a premium to access their services. Being an experienced manager can mean having access to some brilliant opportunities for career advancement.
What Does a Management Apprenticeship Involve?
Every apprenticeship that is adhering to the apprenticeship standards will have 80% of your time spent on working with the business you have been assigned to and learning from those around you how best to do the job.
The other 20% will be the studying part of the apprenticeship and this will either be spent at home studying material provided or with a local educational provider who will ensure that you have a thorough theoretical grounding in your subject area of choice.
Are You Suited for a Management Apprenticeship?
Many of the management apprenticeships on offer are degree level and this means that they require a higher standard of academic achievement to be able to qualify for them. This can be a good way of obtaining a degree while being paid for your time and it is an excellent way to avoid ending up in debt to pay for your studies.
In order to complete a management apprenticeship successfully, you will need to have the requisite temperament. It is important that you are a calm and responsible person who isn’t prone to messing around. This is a surefire way to ruin your opportunity at this level.
By all means smile and be pleasant but boisterous horseplay will not be welcomed. Being able to show maturity and leadership is a vital part of this role and if this doesn’t sound like something you can do, a management apprenticeship is not for you.
